¿México toma la buena senda?

CIUDAD DE MEXICO – Para tener una idea de cómo entiende la relación entre Estados Unidos y México el norteamericano promedio, basta con mirar Breaking Bad, la serie de televisión aclamada por la crítica. Ambientada en Albuquerque, Nueva México, a unos cientos de kilómetros de la frontera, la serie da cuenta del ascenso y la caída de Walter White, un profesor de química de escuela secundaria que se convierte en un magnate de la metanfetamina.

La mayoría de los personajes del lado estadounidense de la frontera son caracterizados con piedad y profundidad. El descenso paso a paso del protagonista principal en el submundo de la droga muestra con mucha sutileza que cada decisión individual que toma en el camino parece casi razonable.

Desafortunadamente, el otro lado de la frontera recibe un trato más superficial. En una escena, dos sicarios mexicanos masacran sin piedad a una docena de compatriotas inocentes que podían ser testigos de su cruce de la frontera. En otro episodio, se ve a miembros de la Policía Federal mexicana atacando a un patrón de la droga en su hacienda, dando a entender que sólo están cumpliendo órdenes de un narcotraficante rival.
