今年已经有4吨多的可卡因在西非地区被查获,这一数量超过了2006年全年查获量的35%。还有不少毒品在几内亚湾以外的国际水域被查获。

这一地区成为重要贩毒中心的原因之一就在于它的地理位置。西非为从南美到欧洲可卡因市场的贩毒路线提供了一个理想的中转站。渔船和货轮上隐藏了大批的毒品,而后再分成小股货物,由快船沿海岸线运送到摩洛哥或西班牙。
