Die Vermarktung des Nationalismus in China

Erklärungen für die wütenden antijapanischen Proteste, die letzten Monat in China ausgebrochen sind, gibt es zuhauf. Aus chinesischer Sicht ist natürlich die japanische Regierung verantwortlich, weil sie sich nicht für die japanischen Kriegsverbrechen im Zweiten Weltkrieg entschuldigen will. Allerdings spielten auch die chinesischen Medien eine unrühmliche Rolle. Sie veröffentlichten einseitige Artikel über Japan, die noch zusätzlich Öl ins Feuer gossen.

Der Nationalismus ist in den letzten Jahren zu einem hervorstechenden Element in den chinesischen Medien geworden. Aggressive kritische Artikel über die Vereinigten Staaten, Japan und Taiwan erscheinen mit zunehmender Häufigkeit und werden auch immer prominenter platziert. Vielfach wird hinter diesem Trend die chinesische Regierung vermutet, aber durch das Augenmerk auf den Einfluss von oben wird übersehen, wie der Druck des Marktes die chinesischen Medien in diese Richtung drängt.

Bevor China seine Wirtschaft im Jahr 1978 öffnete, waren alle Zeitungen und Zeitschriften „Parteizeitungen“ und „Parteizeitschriften“. Die Medienbosse wurden ernannt und von der Regierung kontrolliert. Journalisten und Herausgeber waren im Endeffekt Regierungsfunktionäre.
