天安门事件的教训

纽约——“天安门大屠杀”整整二十年后,中华人民共和国却鲜有年轻人了解当时发生的状况,思之的确令人齿冷。1989年6月4日,许多手无寸铁的中国公民在天安门广场附近和中国各大城市被人民解放军屠杀。多数人并不是启动反腐败反专制和平抗议运动的学生,而是本应得到共产党支持的普通工人。

年轻人对此一无所知,是因为多数家长绝口不提此事,他们生怕为自己和子女引火烧身,还有一个原因是官方的中国媒体从不言及此事,这是一个禁区。提及1989年事件的网站被迫关闭。电子邮件遭到拦截。依然坚持当众谈论此事的人时常遭到逮捕。

赵紫阳在1989年任共产党总书记。尽管他自己并非民主人士,但他同情抗议学生的遭遇。他因反对自己政府中的强硬派而遭到软禁,直到2005年去世。录有他回忆录的盒带被伪装成京剧录音带走私出国。这本回忆录的中英文版刚刚面世,但还不能在中国发行。
