在过去,金融资金流的中断——或称“骤停”——都是拉美及其他地区发展中国家危机的一个重要特征。1980年代的拉美债务危机导致了长达八年的资金断流。1997年年中爆发的亚洲金融危机以及危机向各新兴经济体的蔓延也造成了持续了六年的断流。而与1930年代大萧条相关的资金中断则持续了几十年。
