而当时为此而新设的联合国特别法庭——在纽伦堡和东京审判结束了近半个世纪之后——也开创了先河,为随后审判卢旺达大屠杀,追究利比里亚前军事独裁者查尔斯·泰勒以及他那帮塞拉利昂滴血钻石屠夫,以及审判柬埔寨红色高棉屠杀者提供了示范。而这个前南斯拉夫问题国际刑事法庭(简称:前南法庭)同时也带动了常设国际刑事法庭的成立。
