纽约—“如果事实和理论不符,那么就改理论,”老话如是说。但往往保持理论改变事实才更容易——或者说,德国总理默克尔和其他支持紧缩的欧洲领导人是这么认为的。尽管频繁被事实打脸,他们仍拒绝接受现实。

紧缩失败了。但紧缩的辩护者仍要以极其脆弱的证据宣布胜利“经济不再崩溃,因此一定是紧缩见效了!但如果以此为准,我们可以说跳下悬崖是最好的下山方式;毕竟,下坡之势被止住了。

但所有的衰退总有重点。成功不能用复苏终于发生这一事实来衡量,而应该用复苏多快、衰退创造的伤害多大来衡量。
