华盛顿—随着二战结束于太平洋,我们日本人带着深深的忏悔之情踏上了重建和复兴国家之路。我们的前辈的行为给亚洲各民族带来了巨大的伤害,我们决不能对此视而不见。我同意日本诸任前首相所表达的这一观点。

基于这一认识和忏悔,我们日本人几十年来都认为我们必须竭尽全力为亚洲的发展做出贡献。我们必须全力以赴致力于地区和平与繁荣。

我为我们所选择的道路而自豪,但在这条路上,我们不孤独。七十年前,日本被夷为平地,每个月,美国公民都会给我们的孩子们寄送或带来儿童牛奶、温暖的毛衣甚至山羊等礼物。是的,战争结束后的一年里有2,306头美国山羊来到日本。从前的敌人变成了亲密的朋友。
