发自普林斯顿——当我还是个孩子的时候,父亲喜欢带着我在水边漫步。我们经常都会看见一些正忙着收紧鱼线将猎物从水底扯上岸的垂钓者。我还曾经看见有人将一条苦苦挣扎的小鱼拦腰刺穿挂在钩子上,当作给大鱼的诱饵。

还有一次,当我们路过一条平静的小溪的时候,我看见一个人静静地坐着盯着浮标,似乎与世无争,但他身边却摆着一堆垂死挣扎着的鱼。父亲说,他不明白为什么一个人能花费整个下午的时间,就是为了想方设法把鱼从水里弄出来并看着它们慢慢死去。

当我在阅读《海中的恶行:野生捕捞鱼类的福利》这份由fishcount.org.hk网站发布的开创性报告之时,这些童年往事又浮现在了眼前。在全世界大多数地方,人们都认同如果要杀动物来作为食物的话,那么就应让动物毫无痛苦地死去。在屠宰方面的法规一般要求动物在不经意的情况下被瞬间杀死,就算是某些宗教的屠宰者,也要在教规允许的范围内尽快杀死动物。
