纽约——西方与俄罗斯的关系很少比现在还差,俄罗斯总统弗拉基米尔·普京干预乌克兰及吞并克里米亚造成了现在这种局面。但美国总统奥巴马一直竭尽全力向世界保证并没有开始一场新的冷战

即便如此,美国自由主义鹰派和强硬保守派依旧认为奥巴马内阁比不上德怀特·艾森豪威尔和里根等所谓强硬派总统。他们似乎并不在意艾森豪威尔从未采取任何措施阻止苏联坦克镇压1956年匈牙利起义,也不在意里根无意支持反对波兰共产主义政权的团结工会积极份子。

在很多方面,冷战让美国总统的决策变得相对容易。当时只有美苏两个大国——中国当时还没有跨入大国行列——而上述两国利益范围的界定也十分明晰。同样明晰的还有苏联的统治思想:也就是斯大林主义版的共产主义。
