在国民收入账目中,贸易逆差到代表着一个国家的消费超过了生产。从账目的角度来讲,将贸易逆差标记为负储蓄似乎是符合逻辑的。

大多数的经济学家都进而认为美国的贸易逆差是由储蓄不足造成的。但由于一个国家的贸易逆差就意味着另一个国家的贸易顺差,所以美联储德主席Ben Bernanke的说法则是要完全扭转传统的逻辑:美国的贸易逆差不是储蓄不足的结果,而是全球—特别是中国储蓄过剩所致。
