МЕЛЬБУРН. Вы давали какие-нибудь обещания на Новый год? Возможно, вы решили улучшить свое физическое здоровье, похудеть, отложить на что-нибудь денег или пить меньше алкоголя. Или, возможно, ваше решение было более альтруистическим: помочь нуждающимся или снизить долю выброса диоксида углерода от своей деятельности. Но выполняете ли вы принятые на себя обязательства?

2010 год еще только начинается, а исследования показывают, что менее половины тех, кто дает обещания на Новый год, могут выполнять их хотя бы на протяжении одного месяца. Что это говорит нам о человеческой природе и нашей способности жить рассудительно или жить, соблюдая требования морали?

Часть проблемы заключается в том, что мы принимаем решения делать только те вещи, которые иначе мы, возможно, не сделали бы. Только страдающий анорексией решил бы есть мороженое хотя бы раз в неделю, и только трудоголик решил бы проводить больше времени перед телевизором. Поэтому мы используем праздник Нового года, чтобы попытаться изменить поведение, которое, возможно, труднее всего изменить. Результатом, скорее всего, станет провал.
