Wie man Neujahrsvorsätze auch einhält

MELBOURNE – Haben Sie irgendwelche Neujahrsvorsätze gefasst? Vielleicht haben Sie sich vorgenommen, mehr für ihre körperliche Fitness zu tun, Gewicht zu verlieren, mehr Geld zu sparen oder weniger Alkohol zu trinken.   Möglicherweise ist Ihr Vorsatz auch von altruistischeren Idealen geprägt: den Bedürftigen zu helfen oder Ihren CO2-Fußabdruck zu verkleinern. Werden Sie Ihren Vorsatz aber auch einhalten?

Das Jahr 2010 ist noch jung, aber Studien belegen, dass es weniger als der Hälfte derjenigen, die sich Neujahrsvorsätze fassen, auch gelingt, sich einen Monat lang daran zu halten. Was sagt uns das über die menschliche Natur und unsere Fähigkeit, ein besonnenes oder ethisches Leben zu führen?

Ein Teil des Problems ist natürlich, dass wir uns nur Dinge vornehmen, die wir normalerweise wahrscheinlich nicht tun würden. Nur ein Magersüchtiger würde den Vorsatz fassen, mindestens einmal in der Woche Eis zu essen und nur ein Workaholic würde sich vornehmen, mehr Zeit vor dem Fernseher zu verbringen. Wir nützen also die Gelegenheit zu Neujahr, eine Änderung jener Verhaltensweisen herbeizuführen, die am schwierigsten abzulegen sind. Damit rückt allerdings auch der Fehlschlag in greifbare Nähe.
