ATHEN – Bei den bevorstehenden Wahlen in Griechenland steht einiges auf dem Spiel. Das Wahlergebnis könnte über den Verbleib des Landes in der Eurozone entscheiden, mit weitreichenden Folgen für den Rest der Währungsunion.

Die linksradikale Syriza-Partei, deren Popularität im Zuge der Wirtschaftskrise des Landes in die Höhe geschnellt ist, gilt als Favorit für den Sieg, wird aber wahrscheinlich nicht genügend Parlamentssitze erringen, um allein regieren zu können. Stattdessen wird sie vermutlich eine Koalitionsregierung führen, wobei noch unklar ist, mit welchen anderen Parteien.

Das zentrale Anliegen von Syriza ist ihr Wirtschaftsprogramm, das den Auswirkungen des äußerst rigiden Sparprogramms entgegenwirken soll, das die Griechen in den vergangenen viereinhalb Jahren im Gegenzug für Rettungspakete der „Troika“ aus Europäischer Zentralbank, Internationalem Währungsfonds und der Europäischen Kommission erdulden mussten. Die Renten sind um durchschnittlich 40% gekürzt worden, während die Mittelschicht unter der Last lähmender neuer Immobiliensteuern ächzt.
