Innovation oder Stagnation

DUBAI – Ebenso wie Menschen altern auch Firmen. Als kleine, auf das Überleben programmierte Unternehmen starten sie ihr Dasein, angetrieben von jugendlicher Energie und frischen Ideen.  Sie stellen sich dem Wettbewerb, expandieren, reifen und geraten letztlich – mit wenigen Ausnahmen – in Vergessenheit. Das Gleiche gilt für Regierungen: auch sie können Hunger und Ehrgeiz der Jugend einbüßen sich der Selbstgefälligkeit hingeben.

Man bedenke Folgendes: nur 11 Prozent der Fortune-500-Unternehmen des Jahres 1995 bestehen heute noch und die durchschnittliche Zeit ihres Verbleibs unter den Top 500 ist von 75 auf 15 Jahre gesunken. Wer hinterherhinkt, verliert in diesem Zeitalter des raschen Wandels an Bedeutung – und zwar im Handumdrehen.  Ländern mit alternden Regierungen blüht das gleiche Schicksal wie rückständigen Unternehmen. Die einfache Entscheidung lautet: Innovation oder Bedeutungsverlust.

Der Kampf um nationale Wettbewerbsfähigkeit wird mindestens so erbittert geführt wie der Wettstreit zwischen den Firmen auf dem Markt. In einer globalisierten Welt konkurrieren Länder um Investitionen, qualifizierte Kräfte, Wachstum und Chancen. Wer ins Hintertreffen gerät, bezahlt den höchsten Preis: nämlich mit dem Verlust von menschlicher Entwicklung, Wohlstand und  Zufriedenheit der Bürger.
