贪婪的土壤

纽约——1987年的电影《华尔街》里有个角色叫盖戈登(Gordon Gekko),有一句名言,说“贪婪是好的”(Greed is good)。他的信条代表了产业和金融过度繁荣时期的哲学,那一轮过度繁荣早已随20世纪80年代末垃圾债券市场崩盘与储蓄贷款合作社危机(Savings & Loan crisis)走到了末路。影片中,盖戈登也锒铛入狱。

一代人以后,《华尔街》的续集将于下个月上映,盖戈登刑满出狱,重返金融江湖。他的回归恰逢次贷泡沫破灭前夕,这回这个泡沫的破灭将引发大萧条以来最严重的金融和经济危机。

“贪婪是好的”是历次金融危机中的一种典型心态。次贷神话的推手们——交易员和银行家是不是比盖戈登那一辈人更贪婪、更自负、更不道德呢?倒也未必。贪婪和不道德世世代代伴随着金融市场的发展,司空见惯。
