发自纽约——2019年头等重要的公共卫生举措就是要为全球抗击艾滋病,结核病和疟疾基金补充资金。这三种目前每年导致大约250万人死亡的疾病到2030年才可以被完全遏制,将死亡人数降至几乎为零。而作为实现这一成就的主要工具,全球基金(全称为The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria,抗艾滋病、结核和疟疾全球基金)每年需要筹集100亿美元才能完成任务。

科菲·安南(Kofi Annan)于2001年建立的这一基金已经挽救了2700万人的生命,并一直在控制上述三种流行病以期在2030年将其切实消灭。尽管这三种疾病都无法根除,但所有死亡病例和新感染都可以被遏止,因为在过去25年中诊断,预防和治疗手段都得到了显著改善且成本也大幅降低。
