Deutschland ist nicht Volkswagen

MÜNCHEN – Der Skandal um Volkswagen hat dazu geführt, dass das deutsche Produktionsmodell hinterfragt wird. Wenn der Erfolg der Dieselfahrzeuge des Unternehmens teilweise auf die betrügerischen Versuche zurückzuführen ist, die Menge ihrer schädlicher Abgase zu verschleiern, würden dann ähnliche Enthüllungen anderer Konzerne die Verwandlung des Landes vom „kranken Mann Europas“ in eine exportgetriebene dynamische Wirtschaftsmacht in Frage stellen?

Glücklicherweise ist die Antwort mit ziemlicher Sicherheit nein. Der deutsche Wettbewerbsvorteil hat weniger mit Täuschung zu tun, als vielmehr mit der Struktur der Unternehmen des Landes und der dortigen Unternehmenskultur. Deutschlands führender Automobilkonzern ist kein Beispiel für die Produktionsregeln, die das Land zum Erfolg geführt haben, sondern stellt eine Ausnahme dar.

In der Tat wird der deutsche Erfolg oft als Modell für andere Länder bezeichnet, und dies zu Recht. Seit Beginn des Jahrhunderts hat sich das Land zu einem der führenden Exporteure der Welt entwickelt und in diesem Bereich alle anderen großen europäischen Staaten hinter sich gelassen. Von 2000 bis 2013 stiegen die deutschen Exporte um 154%, verglichen mit 127% Wachstum in Spanien, 98% in Großbritannien, 79% in Frankreich und 72% in Italien.
