La dépression vaincue par la méditation

La dépression affecte une personne sur quatre à un moment ou à un autre de sa vie. C'est une souffrance psychologique prolongée dans laquelle la tristesse, sentiment normal, se transforme en un état de désespoir profond, d'apathie, d'absence de motivation et de fatigue. Mais, pour aussi bien qu'elle soit définie, la dépression se vit différemment d'un individu à l'autre, allant d'un état dépressif naissant à la dépression majeure.

Un début de dépression se traduit par le fait de ruminer sur les aspects négatifs de soi-même et des autres, d'être plein de ressentiment, d'être irritable ou coléreux la plus grande partie du temps, d'éprouver de la commisération à son propre égard et avoir besoin d'être rassuré par autrui. Elle peut aussi se traduire par des plaintes quant à des douleurs physiques qui ne reposent sur aucune maladie somatique.

Quand la dépression s'aggrave, un sentiment d'extrême tristesse et de désespoir se combine avec un manque d'estime à l'égard de soi, un sentiment de culpabilité, des pertes de mémoire et des difficultés de concentration, ce qui donne naissance à une véritable souffrance psychologique. Des perturbations physiologiques peuvent encore aggraver la situation. Le rythme de la vie quotidienne est perturbé par un manque ou un excès de sommeil, une perte d'appétit ou au contraire des accès de boulimie. L'intérêt pour des activités qui autrefois suscitaient l'enthousiasme disparaît. Et parfois même s'installe le sentiment que la vie ne vaut pas la peine d'être vécue et que la mort est préférable.
