PRINCETON – I summit sono condizionati dal luogo in cui si svolgono. È singolare che la World Economic Conference del 1933 si sia svolta nel Museo geologico di Kensington, a Londra, in un’epoca in cui la cooperazione internazionale sembrava arcaica quanto un dinosauro imbalsamato. In base a tali considerazioni, forse anche Deauville, nel cuore della Normandia, simbolo di un’eleganza passata (leggermente sbiadita), fatta di lusso, ostentazione e banchetti sontuosi, non è la scelta migliore per il meeting del G8.

Quest’anno i leader del G8 parleranno di questioni interessanti ma periferiche, come l’impatto economico di Internet. È grave notare come temi importanti, come la sicurezza alimentare, siano trattati solo marginalmente.

La prima volta che si è trattata seriamente la questione alimentare risale al meeting svoltosi a L’Aquila nel luglio del 2009 in risposta alla vacillante bolla delle materie prime che da allora si manifesta con la forza di un uragano. Ora il G8 discuterà dei fondi necessari per attuare misure palliative.
