但如果你不巧是一条西大西洋蓝鳍金枪鱼,你的情绪肯定更加悲观。 远洋白鳍鲨、公子鲨和刺狗鲨等几个鲨鱼物种的情况也基本相似。 尽管有过硬的科学证据显示上述三个物种的种群数量急剧下降,但申请对这些海洋物种采取更严厉贸易管制措施的提案却未能获得通过所需的三分之二投票,同样未获通过实行管制措施的还有30多种珊瑚。

在讨论西大西洋蓝鳍金枪鱼的案例时,若干国家提出由现在的管理机构——即国际大西洋鲔类资源保护委员会(ICCAT)实施管理最为有效。 但提议制定严格贸易规则的与会者并不认同他们的观点,而且他们有充足的理由。
