在过去的几年中,世界经济最发达的国家的人们开始对中国、印度和其它拥有廉价劳力大军的新兴国家的经济实力极度担心。他们担心自己的饭碗和子女的未来。他们必须同世界上最贫穷的国家展开竞争。这些担心正考验着世界上最富有的国家的政治领袖们。

新闻报道是这种日益强烈的担忧的一个指标。我在Lexis-Nexis数据库里搜索了全世界英文报纸中关于"外包"、"工作"和"印度"三个关键词的新闻报道。在1999年,Lexis-Nexis只收录了39篇报道;到2003年则有749篇报道。而在2004年的前6个月就已经有1208篇相关报道。当我用"外包"、"工作"和"中国"三个关键词搜索时,结果也是大同小异。

在我用法、德、意和西班牙文搜索时发现这三个关键词连用的频率也有相似的增长:90%的报道出现在2003和2004年。
