缺乏远见的欧洲领导人

发自伦敦——随着赫尔曼·范龙佩当选为欧洲理事会常任主席,以及凯瑟琳·阿什顿女士当选为欧盟外交和安全政策高级代表,这两个人选都明确说明了欧盟各成员国究竟在何种程度上掌控着整个联盟。他们都遵照本国利益来操纵着各个欧盟机构,而欧盟也没能成为那个毫无畏惧大步迈向光明前途的超级国家。

自此,法国总统尼古拉·萨科齐无须再与布鲁塞尔的领导人争风吃醋了。德国也不再被要求去摆脱其日渐增强的内向性,也没必要再为证明自己的战后民主国家资格而对欧盟的所有进程照单全收。英国也松了一口气,因为其世界地位将依然保持着美国白宫的忠实跟班角色。

而这两位低调欧洲领导人当选的最大好处,就是使得欧盟事务能得到更好也更有条理的管理。范龙佩的眼光显然会比一个任期六个月的国家总统更为长远,而阿什顿女士则能够把欧盟对外政策的政治与资源整合起来。
