欧洲的英语民族

欧盟有了单一的货币,但是否要有单一的语言呢?自建立以来,欧盟就将每一位成员国的语言作为其官方语言的一种。最近,就连只被本国的极少数人使用的爱尔兰语也被赋予了正式官方语言的地位。

将欧盟的所有语言同等对待是在立盟的条约中所规定的,各成员国正式平等地位的直接结果。这同样也事关所有法律都应该用其适用的每一个国家的语言来书写的民主原则。

但欧盟作为语言多样性保护者的姿态也不能掩盖英语正迅速成为强势通用语言的趋势。似乎语言越多,人们也就越多地使用英语。然而,欧盟委员会仍然鼓励年轻人尽可能学习更多的欧洲语言。承认形势发展的真实情况在政治上将是致命的,就算官方的政策只会让欧洲人在费尽力气之后可能仍是鸡同鸭讲。
