过去一万年中,地球的气候一直相当稳定。全球气温升降不超过一摄氏度(上个冰河期全球气温有超过八摄氏度的波动),生态系统也有着满足人类需求的足够弹性。这个被称为全新世的时期提供了人类文明崛起和繁荣所需的稳定。据我们所知只有这种状态才能确保上百亿民众生活得富裕繁荣。
