事实上,即使在认为政府不应该监管生物技术的新发展的“技术自由主义者”(techno-libertarians)中也有不少支持美国食品药品监督管理局(FDA)的决定——FDA给23andMe公司CEO安妮·沃伊西奇(Anne Wojcicki)寄了一封措辞严厉的公函,阻止该公司在后续科学分析期间推销其遗传测试服务。“我也十分希望能够指出[FDA]打击23andMe是在阻挠创业精神和创新,”马修·赫伯(Matthew Herper)在《福布斯》杂志中写道,“我希望我写的是这样的故事,但事实并非如此。”

根据FDA的说法,23andMe在推销未经批准的个人基因组服务(PGS),这违反了联邦法,因为该公司花了六年时间还没有证明这些测试实际有用。
