对经济问题一无所知的美国人在目睹身边失业、房屋止赎的悲惨景象和美国国际地位江河日下的同时,一边从财政清廉的过时主张中汲取狂热,一边紧紧抓住手里的圣经,拥护对美国宪法做出的幼稚解读。但他们的做法只能令美国经济越陷越深,同时进一步加大经济复苏的难度。就连他们厌恶税收的金主们也在赞赏这群乌合之众捍卫其财产做法的同时,开始对这种不计后果的想法给投资环境和股票价格造成的冲击表示担忧。

2008年肩负着美好愿望和期待上任的巴拉克·奥巴马总统现在就像被车灯照着的野鹿般不知所措。他知道经济的短期需要与国债管理的长期需要相左,但是他无力提供果断的领导。他寻求妥协的错误举动只能进一步激起反对者的狂热。
