最近一项研究显示渔业产量多年以来一直被严重低估。这理应引起负责监督公海商业捕鱼行为的地区渔业管理机构的重视,同时必须重视这个问题的还有负责保护濒危迁徙物种的联合国《保护野生动物迁徙物种公约》(CMS)监管者。

《保护野生动物迁徙物种公约》附录I 规定,今天有必要对大白鲨、5种锯鳐和11种鳐鱼实行最严格的保护。《保护野生动物迁徙物种公约》将于本月在哥斯达黎加圣何塞召开的洄游鲨鱼会议为推进法规建设提供了重要机会,其目的是保护及可持续利用上述物种,以使其继续发挥顶级捕食者至关重要的生态作用。
