利比里亚前总统查理·泰勒用钻石来资助塞拉利昂内战中的反对派,并因此在海牙特别法庭受到战争罪指控。但此案只不过是利用钻石侵犯人权的众多案件之一罢了。

当人们终于意识到钻石也能为暴力冲突火上浇油时,钻石行业建立起了一套名为“金伯利进程”的审核程序,确保“血钻”无法进入国际贸易环节。虽然该进程未能完全阻止那些产自刚果民主共和国等战乱国家的钻石入市流通,但它也的确取得了了一些成效。
