Западные СМИ склонны раздувать групповое помешательство на какой-либо одной теме. По иронии судьбы, если говорить о Китае, последнее помешательство касается непосредственно продуктов питания. Приведенный на этой неделе в исполнение смертный приговор бывшему руководителю китайского департамента по безопасности продуктов и лекарств, Чжэну Сяоую, получившему взяток на сумму почти миллион долларов, показывает, что это помешательство проникло сейчас и в Китай.

Сначала появилось множество историй о продуктах для животных с добавкой меламина (вещества, получаемого из угля), таблетках от кашля и зубной пасте, содержащих диэтиленгликоль (промышленное химическое вещество со сладким вкусом, использующееся в составе антифризов и тормозной жидкости), игрушечных поездах, окрашенных красителями на основе свинца, антибиотиках, зараженных бактериями, взрывающихся аккумуляторах для мобильных телефонов и дефектных автопокрышках.

Итак, внимание сейчас обращено на продукты питания. Мировая пресса заполнена историями о меде, содержащем промышленные подсластители, консервах, зараженных бактериями и содержащих избыточное количество добавок, сакэ с добавлением технического спирта, а также выращенных на фермах рыбе, угрях и креветках, которым скармливают большие дозы антибиотиков, а затем промывают формалином, чтобы снизить содержание бактерий.
