中国的最佳希望

    人们并不是主要由于2008年发生的高尚或者英勇的行为而怀念这一年。但是,在过去几个月有关金融诈骗、印度和加沙流血以及全球经济灾难的新闻报导中,有一个事件则由于其勇敢和高尚而引人注目。12月10日是世界人权宣言发表60周年纪念日,三百多名中国各界人士,包括法学教授、商人、农民甚至某些政府官员在零八宪章这一非凡的文件上签名。

    后来又有几千人签名,他们问到,中国在二十一世纪究竟走向何处。中国是否继续在独裁统治下实现“现代化”,还是接受普世人权价值标准,加入文明国家主流并且建设民主体制?

    零八宪章中根本就没有什么煽动性言论。它并不呼吁暴力叛乱,也没有复仇或者报复的饥渴嚣张。它只是要求所有自由民主国家公民中认为是理所当然的东西,也就是质疑政府政策的权利、保护人权、独立司法以及多党选举。
