中国的艾滋病危机

外国医生一般很少会到中国的农村,传染性爱滋病在那里流行肆虐,夺去了很多无辜的生命。但不久前,我和两位护士随无国界医生组织的医疗队来到了湖北泥嘴的贫困山村,走访了那里一户刘姓家庭,看望了他们只有7个月大的小孩。那孩子身材只有两个月大,可眼神却像八旬老翁一样充满了极度的苦痛。他正在艾滋病的边缘垂死挣扎。他的父母、阿姨和叔叔的HIV检测也都呈阳性。

刘姓家庭不过是20世纪90年代在被污染的献血过程中感染艾滋病的成千上万穷苦农民家庭中的一员,那个时候,管理不善的赢利性血库组织重复使用针头,在血浆采集后把感染者身上的血液输到了健康的献血者身上。

中国卫生部最近公布了总数达840,000例的HIV/艾滋病汇总结果,但多数专家相信,实际的数字比这还要大的多。有人甚至认为到2010年,中国人的感染总数可能会达到1000万。
