阻止夺去女性生命的第二大杀手

上述趋势在一定程度上反映了孕产妇死亡人数的成功降低。20世纪90年代后,死于分娩的女性人数为289,000人,相比之前减少了将近半数。然而同期宫颈癌致死人数却攀升至266,000人,每年骤增近40%。虽然医疗标准提高不断降低孕产妇死亡率,但宫颈癌的死亡人数预计仍将延续升势。截止2035年,预计该病每年将造成发展中国家(其中大部分生活在撒哈拉以南非洲和南亚)的416,000名女性缓慢而痛苦地死去。

悲剧在于这些死亡几乎完全可以防止。人乳头状瘤病毒(HPV)疫苗辅之以筛查和治疗即可预防绝大多数宫颈癌病例。但死于宫颈癌的女性近90%生活在发展中国家,那里有太多人无法享受到筛查,更不要说治疗服务。
