И об этом стоит сожалеть. Страховые компании предоставляют услуги профессионального, очень предметного управления рисками, которые отвечают степени сложности опасностей, от которых страхуют, и творчески реагируют на индивидуальные нужды. Продвижение услуг частного страхования может, по-видимому, быть опосредованной реакцией на цунами, но это является ответом, рациональным и мощным.

Страховые компании не очень сильно проникли в те регионы, которые больше всего пострадали от цунами. В соответствии с исследованиями, проведенными Институтом страховой информации, затраты на страхование, не связанное со страхованием жизни, в 2003 году в Индонезии составили 0,83% ВВП, в Таиланде – 1,19% ВВП, в Индии – 0,62% ВВП, в сравнении с 5,23% ВВП в Соединенных Штатах.
