Если Вы ограничите свой поиск рандомизированными контролируемыми исследованиями, которые обычно рассматриваются как самый надежный проект для исследования эффективности лечения, все равно появится больше чем 3200 определений.

Учитывая огромное воздействие депрессии на здоровье в мировом масштабе, затраты на здравоохранение и способность работать, такое большое количество информации должно быть хорошей новостью. Но посмотрим внимательнее на изучение индивидуума, и скоро станет очевидным, что большинство исследуют физиологические, метаболические или биохимические нарушения, связанные с депрессией. Ни одно из этих исследований не принесло никакой пользы для решения вопроса - к каким пациентам нужно применять какую терапию и в течение какого промежутка времени.

Конечно, все еще существует примерно 1500 исследований различных способов лечения: психофармацевтические лекарства, электрошок, яркий свет, упражнения, психотерапия и даже иглоукалывание. Правда, многие из этих исследований фиксируют краткосрочный, и лишь в некоторых случаях долгосрочный эффект от различных способов лечения, в основном, с приемлемым компромиссом между эффективностью и безопасностью.
