科学能拯救欧洲吗?

维也纳——欧洲目前的财政困难没有轻松的解决之道。自我强制性的紧缩政策换来的是公众采取更实在措施恢复经济增长和创造就业机会的呼声愈加高涨。抗议人士淋漓尽致地表达了对不平等现象愈演愈烈的不满,他们对全球金融精英特权的谴责令人不安地近乎牵连到了政府。

如果是以前,这种情况可能被视为革命的前夜。但当今世界这样的后果或许更为温和,但却同样令人忧虑:我们面临着团结的丧失、民族狭隘情绪的回归和更大范围的政治极端主义。

欧洲的形象因此遭受了损失,特别当你比照亚洲蓬勃发展的经济时这一后果更难以回避。在中国、印度和其他国家实现经济持续增长并投资创新研究的同时,欧洲却被公认近乎陷入经济和政治上的衰退。更糟的是,欧洲似乎已决意忽视它所拥有的持久的优势。
