MONTREAL – In un'automobile, i punti ciechi sono le porzioni di strada che gli specchietti retrovisori e laterali non riescono a catturare. Un guidatore deve tenerli costantemente presenti ed essere cosciente dei pericoli, potenzialmente mortali, che possono causare.

Anche le aziende possono avere dei punti ciechi, ed essi possono implicare costi altrettanto elevati poiché inducono le aziende a investire troppo in imprese rischiose, perdendo di vista altre opportunità. I leader di successo sono quelli che cercano d’individuare i punti ciechi della propria azienda e introducono meccanismi per renderli innocui.

Una comune causa di punti ciechi in ambito imprenditoriale è il bias del giudizio. Esso nasce quando i dirigenti hanno una visione troppo ristretta dell'attività aziendale, sottovalutano le capacità dei concorrenti, o non riescono a cogliere il cambiamento nel panorama competitivo.
