布什失败的四年

世界各地的许多人都对布什总统在竞选连任时对经济的漠不关心感到惊讶。但我却不感到吃惊:如果我是布什总统,我最不愿谈到的就是经济问题。

然而许多人在看待美国经济,甚至就是过去这三年半的经济状况时却都不乏羡慕。毕竟,年经济增长率-平均为2.5%-虽然比克林顿执政时期有了显著的下降,但仍然令欧洲1%的增长率相形见绌。

但这些统计数据却遮掩了一个刺眼的事实:普通的美国家庭没有三年半以前富有了。实际收入的中值事实上减少了1500美金,且由于工资增幅低于通货膨胀和重要家庭支出的大幅攀升正使美国家庭的利益受到挤压。总之,一切的增长都只使那些位于收入分配金字塔尖的人得利。同样也是这些人在过去的30年里尽享利益分配的好处,而布什的减税更使为他们最大的受益者。
