哥本哈根—尽管寿命预期有了提高、教育更加普及、贫困和饥饿率也有所下降,但世界在改善人民生活质量方面仍有很长的路要走。近十亿人仍然食不果腹,12亿人生活在极端贫困中,26亿人无法获得清洁水 和卫生设施,近三十亿人在家中用有害燃料取暖。


贫困是主要杀手之一。因为贫困,儿童无法获得合理的营养,只能生活在水不干净、卫生设施不足的社区。因为贫困,疟疾等完全可预防的疾病每年要杀死 600,000人;许多人太穷以至于买不起药品和防虫蚊帐,而政府在杀灭携带病菌的蚊子或遏制和治疗传染病暴发方面做得也太差。
