Liderazgo auténtico

COLOMBO – El tema del Foro Económico Mundial de Davos de este año es "Liderazgo responsable y receptivo". Sin embargo, una posible interpretación del triunfo de Donald Trump en las elecciones presidenciales estadounidenses es que hoy en día a los electores les importa menos la responsabilidad que la "autenticidad". Los votantes acogieron con beneplácito los comentarios temerarios de Trump sobre cuestiones delicadas porque estaba diciendo lo que pensaba y estaba siendo fiel a sí mismo. Los políticos comunes y corrientes, al decir siempre lo "correcto", parecen artificiales e insinceros. 

Pero, ¿es necesario que la autenticidad implique temeridad? Por otra parte, ¿es posible que la conducta políticamente correcta constituya una forma de irresponsabilidad, en la medida en que evade cuestiones difíciles y no se enfoca en lo correcto sino en lo que es fácil de justificar? ¿Requiere la autenticidad enfrentar la ansiedad y la angustia que Jean-Paul Sartre consideraba eran las compañeras inevitables de la libertad y la responsabilidad?

Estas son preguntas importantes para los responsables de formular políticas económicas y también para todos los demás. Las autoridades enfrentan su labor de dos maneras fundamentalmente diferentes. Un paradigma considera las políticas económicas como el conjunto de las mejores prácticas universales. Mientras más se adopten, más inversores vendrán.
