Jakou cenu má voda

SINGAPUR/ATLANTA – Lord Byron napsal začátkem devatenáctého století v básni Don Juan, že „než bolest je to naučí, nevědí lidé, jakou cenu dobrá voda má“. O téměř 200 let později jako by lidstvo stále nechápalo hodnotu vody, výrazem čehož jsou desítky let špatného vodního hospodářství a řízení vodních zdrojů prakticky všude na světě. Je však stále obtížnější ignorovat hrozící vodní krizi – zejména pro ty, kdo už dnes pociťují její následky.

Jistě, v posledních letech zaznamenalo vodohospodářství některá zlepšení. Ta však přicházejí postupně a příliš pomalým tempem, takže nedokážou tento problém účinně vyřešit.

Aby pomohly nastartovat pokrok, pracují velké nadnárodní společnosti jako Nestlé, Coca-Cola, SABMiller a Unilever – které už dlouho zdůrazňují svým investorům, jakou překážku představuje nedostatek vody pro jejich podnikání, nemluvě o komunitách, v nichž působí – na tom, aby se zlepšila dostupnost, kvalita a trvalá udržitelnost vody. Jejich úspěch bude vyžadovat novátorskou strategii, která obrátí naruby vžité předpoklady o problémech spojených s vodou – a přístupy k nim.
