Le plan d’attaque pour l’éducation jusqu’en 2030

LONDRES – Lorsque j’ai visité le camp de réfugiés de Zaatari en Jordanie plus tôt dans l’année, j’ai rencontré des enfants qui m’ont décrit ce que l’éducation représentait pour eux. Pour les jeunes Syriens qui ont été chassés de leur foyer et qui ont tout perdu, l’éducation est plus que des qualifications ou des résultats d’examen ; elle incarne leur espoir d’un avenir meilleur.

Les enfants de Zaatari et des millions d’autres dans le monde entier sont au centre des travaux de la Commission internationale sur le financement des possibilités d’éducation dans le monde, à laquelle je me suis jointe en septembre dernier. Cette commission souscrit au quatrième objectif de développement durable des Nations Unies, qui vise, d’ici 2030, à « assurer un accès équitable et intégrateur à une éducation de qualité et à promouvoir des perspectives de formation durable pour tous ».

Cet objectif est encore une perspective lointaine pour beaucoup trop d’enfants. Avec tant d’enjeux de développement sollicitant notre attention, les décideurs devraient garder à l’esprit que l’éducation n’est pas un bien en soi ; elle sert aussi de catalyseur pour beaucoup d’autres développements.
