沉迷电视的国度

发自纽约——过去半个世纪是电子化大众媒体的时代。电视已经重塑了世界各地的社会面貌。现在,一系列新视频工具正在加入电视的行列:DVD,电脑,游戏机,智能手机等等。但同时也有越来越多的证据显示,这些媒体的扩散将带来无穷的祸患。

美国把世界带入了电视时代,而因此造成的影响可以从美国与哈兰·艾莉森所谓“玻璃奶嘴”的著名论断之间的漫长爱情故事中得到最直接体现。在1950年,拥有电视机的美国家庭比例不到8%;到了1960年,90%的美国家庭都拥有了一台电视机。相比之下世界其他国家要多花几十年才能使电视机的普及率达到了美国同样的水平,而那些最贫困国家到目前为止都还未能企及。

尽管相关统计稍显粗略和不完整,但相关数据显示,美国人不但过去曾是最大的电视迷,现在也依然如此。最有力的证据显示美国人每天平均看电视5小时以上——别忘了在看电视之前他们还花了几个小时在其他的视频设备上,这是一个多么惊人的数字啊。其他国家花在看电视上的时间就少得多了。比如在斯堪的纳维亚半岛,人们花在看电视上的时间大约只有美国的一半。
