发自伦敦——当读到《我父亲的梦想》这本美国总统奥巴马用优美的文笔叙述自己早年生活以及个人身份定位的自传时,许多人都会惊讶于他那种冷静而理智的做事方式。但这并不是说奥巴马就是个毫无感情的人。他这个人可以表现得狂野暴躁,有时也会软弱无力。但奥巴马似乎很少由着自己不加掩饰的情感或者本能的偏见行事。

得益于他的务实和睿智,所有事物迟早都会被奥巴马仔细研究和审视。再回想到希拉里·克林顿在民主党总统初选时发布的著名电视广告,每个人都会毫不犹豫地认为奥巴马就是他们所期望的那个能在凌晨3点钟拿起电话处理国际危机的总统。在行动面前他从不缩手缩脚,但在此之前,他必会三思。

因此我觉得奥巴马大概也不会被自己第一任任期即将结束时所面临的种种批评所困扰,虽然他肯定会对马萨诸塞州因泰德·肯尼迪参议员过世而举行的特别选举中民主党候选人的落马而感到有点恼火。一年之前,这位总统承受了过度的赞誉;如今12个月过去了,他所背负的批评自然也会登峰造极。
