In my blog I cover the subjects which I am interested in, since I left work and retired in July 1996 after 40 years as a mining and metallurgy engineer. My purpose is to share these subjects with my family, my friends and those who may find my pages in the Internet through research engines. using keywords Pierre Ratcliffe. All the subjects are closely linked. They correspond to the unfolding of history and to the evolution of knowledge during my lifetime.

I think we should visit or revisit Hayek's "individualism and economic order" and Albert Schatz's "l'individualisme économique et social". In their references both authors refer to the great authors of the past that forged many of the ideas of today; from these, ideas relevant to the present situation may emerge in continuation. Both refer to authors of the past that have contributed to our ideas of today and to those can emerge in continuation...
This has been enlightening for me.

  • Germany’s Neighborhood Watch

"Ultimately, there can be no strong Germany without a stable eurozone; no stable eurozone without a strong Germany; and no global economic stability without both. It is time for Europeans to make the difficult longer-term choices that are critical to sustaining and enhancing their historical regional project."

Having revisited Keynes in general and his book of 1919 "the economic consequences of the peace" in particular,

I find continuity in Europ's quagmire - with Germany again in the forefront, although in a different way. Today, how can a European market economy emerge with each member state clinging to its soverainty, governed by its own political, institutional and social system? Each country cannot produce the same goods and services in competition with each other. If Europ is to become some day, in the near or far future, a "nation", there has be specialisation and sharing. And as the world will continue to evolve, this requires that the more efficient and successful support those most affected by the changes.

a bit of history may be useful to further understanding the challenge Europ is facing: Keynes "the economic consequences of the peace (1919)" revisited:
