Membership
Project Syndicate tailors its services to the needs and capabilities of individual member publications. In general, Project Syndicate expects a regular financial contribution from its members, the size of which is based on publications’ payment capacities. Contributions from publications with greater financial stability and resources, particularly in advanced countries, enable Project Syndicate to provide commentaries at reduced rates to members in developing countries.
No publication is refused membership solely because it is unable to pay. The key criterion for membership is a commitment to fostering global debate and strengthening the independence of news media. Series
Project Syndicate distributes 52 monthly commentary series and two weekly series to its member publications. The series’ topics vary widely; a link to an overview of each may be found on our home page.
Project Syndicate grants exclusive rights to a series to one member publication in each country, or to more than one member in countries where rights-holders publish in different languages. Because Project Syndicate is not a commercial syndication service, we do not sell individual commentaries.
While our members are under no obligation to publish individual commentaries to which they hold the rights, we value consistent publication. We view frequent publication of our commentaries as an indication of the strength of members’ continued interest in Project Syndicate’s offerings.
Distribution
Project Syndicate distributes its columns via email. All commentaries, translations, author photos, and subscription information is also available on each member publication’s Editor’s Intranet page.
Translation
Project Syndicate offers translations of its commentaries in Arabic, Chinese, Czech, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. While we strive to provide the highest-quality translations, we offer them to our members as a courtesy. The English-language text is the sole authoritative version. We welcome feedback about the quality of the translations that we provide, as this helps us to ensure that a high standard is maintained.
Author Photos
Project Syndicate offers high-resolution digital photographs of contributors whenever possible. We depend on each contributor to provide a photograph, and thus cannot guarantee that one will be sent with each column. We also cannot guarantee the quality of each contributor’s photo.
Publishing Data
Project Syndicate places great emphasis on collecting reliable publishing data from all members. This information informs our editorial decisions, enabling us to serve our members better. Moreover, we provide publishing information to our contributors, many of whom have chosen to write for Project Syndicate because of its unequaled global reach. A complete and accurate publication record enables us to maintain and expand our base of distinguished commentators, benefiting readers everywhere.
Project Syndicate expects all members to provide regular publication updates. In some cases, especially where commentaries are provided free of charge or at a reduced rate, membership in Project Syndicate is contingent upon such cooperation.
