Project Syndicate is a not-for-profit association of newspapers dedicated to fostering global debate on issues shaping the world today. Our organization has rapidly risen to the forefront of the international print media market as the premier provider of the highest quality opinion and commentary content. In the last years, the number of member newspapers has risen enormously to include 387 leading newspapers. Project Syndicate commentaries are now translated into 61 languages and read by over 5 million readers in 145 countries.

Membership

In each country, Project Syndicate seeks the most appropriate venues for its commentaries and tailors the way it works with member publications to meet their needs. In general, Project Syndicate expects a monthly financial contribution from its member papers, but this contribution is based upon the paper's ability to pay. Contributions from wealthier papers, especially in the more advanced countries, help us provide our commentaries below cost to newspapers in the less developed parts of the world. No paper is refused membership solely because of its inability to pay. The most important criterion of membership is the compatibility of the prospective member publication with Project Syndicate's mission of fostering debate among the widest possible readership worldwide. Series

Project Syndicate distributes 32 monthly commentary series and 1 weekly series to its member papers. The series topics vary widely, and a link to an overview of each series may be found on our home page. In any given country, we grant a paper exclusive rights to one or more commentary series in a given language. Because Project Syndicate is a not-for-profit membership organization and not a commercial syndication service, we do not sell individual commentaries. Instead, our member papers determine which series are of interest to them and then subscribe to these series on an ongoing basis. Thus, although Project Syndicate has more than one member in many countries, each member receives different series of commentaries. Also, while our members are under no obligation to publish any individual commentaries, we very much value high publication rates. We view frequent publication of our commentaries by a member newspaper as an indication of the strength of its continued interest in Project Syndicate membership.

Distribution

Project Syndicate distributes its columns via email.

Translation: Project Syndicate offers translations of its commentaries into Arabic, Chinese, Czech, French, German, Russian, and Spanish. While we strive for the highest quality of the translations, we provide these translations as a courtesy only and always note that the English text is the sole authoritative version. Feedback on the quality of our translations is always welcome and helps us maintain and improve their quality.

Photos

Project Syndicate provides digital photographs of our contributors whenever possible. We are dependent on each contributor to provide a photograph and therefore cannot guarantee a photo with each column. We also cannot guarantee the quality of each contributor's photo.

Publishing Data

Project Syndicate makes a great effort to collect reliable publishing data from our members. Having information on the success of a column helps us to make more informed editorial decisions and to better serve our members. Also, we send information and copies of published commentaries to our contributors, many of whom have chosen to write for Project Syndicate because of its unparalleled global reach.

Project Syndicate expects cooperation from all of our members in providing us with information about which of our commentaries have been published in their papers. In some cases, especially those in which commentaries are provided below cost, membership in Project Syndicate is contingent upon cooperation on publishing data.
